Bopl Battle (bopl-port)

The ability-mixing slime brawler, rebuilt: up to 12 bopls on one screen or online, with rollback.

Project page

An open-source, clean-room reimplementation of Bopl Battle for Linux and Windows. Every sprite, sound, level and ability is loaded from your own copy of the game; nothing of the original is included or downloaded.

Up to twelve players in any mix: twelve controllers on one screen, twelve machines online, or several couches against each other. Free-for-all or teams of any split, with every ability of the original to combine, all unlocked from the start.

Warpzone brings public and private rooms, join codes, invite links and NAT traversal; online play uses rollback netcode on the original's deterministic fixed-point simulation, so remote players feel as responsive as the one next to you on the couch.

You need: your own copy of Bopl Battle (Steam) — bopl-port imports its assets at first start

bopl-port 0.1.0 preview

2026-10-18 · on GitHub

First public release of bopl-port, a clean-room reimplementation of Bopl Battle in Rust for Linux (also the Steam Deck) and Windows: the original's deterministic fixed-point simulation reproduced bit for bit, all 124 levels and all 29 abilities (unlocked from the start), menus, options, remapping and the tutorial, for up to 12 players in any mix of local play on one screen (keyboard halves, mouse, controllers) and online play over Warpzone with rollback netcode. Free-for-all or teams of any split.

No game data is included. You need your own copy of Bopl Battle (Steam): bopl-port imports the art, sounds, music and levels from your install at first start into its own data folder and never modifies the install. Not affiliated with Johan Grönvall or the Bopl Battle developers.

Easiest install: the Warpzone launcher installs bopl-port, finds your Bopl Battle install and starts online rooms for you.

Manual install: unpack the archive for your system and run play.sh (Linux) or bopl-port.exe (Windows). See README.txt in the archive. SHA256SUMS covers both archives.

This is a first version (prerelease). The Linux build needs glibc 2.35 or newer and the system's SDL2 (libsdl2-2.0-0, 2.0.20 or newer; SteamOS has it). The Windows build is cross-compiled and was checked under Wine/Proton, not yet on real Windows. Please report problems as GitHub issues.
